LIST OF NATIONS: IN SIMPLE TEXT FORMAT


Introduction
============

The last 10-20 years have been fairly active for new nations emerging
(break up of the Soviet Union and various other European, African and
Asian states) or old ones changing their names to make a break with the
past. It makes a list of nation names a bit of a moving target.

Independence is great for the countries involved. Not so good for your
everyday programmer who just wants a list of somewhat up-to-date nation
names to shove into a form in an easily processable format. Here's just
such a list.

Apologies if your nation is missing, there's a nation or authority there
you don't like, or doesn't have the name you want. A couple I've elected
to include are the disputed regions of Jammu/Kashmir and Taiwan. I've also
included Palestine, despite it being in the odd position of being an
unrecognised nation and/or a territory occupied by Israel.
